Food has always been a favorite indulgence at the Grand Fiesta Americana. Guests love the casual beach-side meals at Isla Contoy, the Mexican specialties and live music at La Joya, Italian Cuisine at Tuscany Trattoria and the five diamond food and service at Le Basilic. This ever-popular property has just added three new dining options to give guests even more choices, which is a much appreciated perk since guests now tend to be booking longer stays.
The Table
Dining at The Table is a unique theatrical experience. Limited to just 20 guests per seating, The Table is a high-tech, interactive, 360º immersive dining experience takes guests on a culinary journey through Mexico’s rich history. Stepping into a private, screen-wrapped room equipped with a custom sound and projection system, guests are instantly immersed and transported back in time. While the communal dining table displays a vivid depiction of Mexican history from prehistoric times to the present, actors and musicians join in the fun to bring the journey to life.
The carefully curated nine-course tasting menu was designed to complement each of the historic time periods and celebrates Mexico’s cuisine through indigenous, locally sourced ingredients. Each course is paired with a specialty beverage and some highlights include blue crab chilpachole made with guajillo chili and burnt tortilla; a traditional venison salad and regional citrus jelly; cacao braised short ribs served with vanilla poached lobster and beurre blanc; and a five spice churro with sweet potato and milk cream cakes.
Nah K’aax
One of the best parts of Cancun is the lovely beaches. Newly opened Nah K’aax gives diners the chance to enjoy terrific food with an ocean view. This beachside restaurant serves Asian-fusion food. Nah K’aax is Mayan for Jungle House and the vibe is simply one of outdoor fun.
There is an extensive sushi menu featuring locally caught seafood and creative dishes such as a street-style tacos with crispy crab and duck confit and Rosarito shrimp tacos, crafted with a blend of dark beer and black tempura batter. Other favorites include a Salmon Burger, marinated with hoisin sauce, orange zest, avocado, radish, cilantro and pear and a flank steak burger with lime mayo, whole grain mustard, turkey pastrami, and bacon. As you relax in the soft sand, you can also watch the twice weekly fire show or stay and dance to the nightly house DJ.
La Antojeria
In Mexico, there is a selection of familiar favorite snacks referred to as ‘antojitos’ or “little cravings.” These small handheld savory bites served throughout the day and evening are usually found at local food stands and are enjoyed as either an appetizer or a bite to eat with a drink, tapas-style. Located poolside and opened in the afternoon, La Antojeria is the place to go when you need a treat after a sun-filled snorkeling trip or a morning at the spa.
Some specialties include pambazos—bread dipped in a red guajillo pepper sauce and filled with potatoes and chorizo; sope—small, savory handheld corn cakes that are filled with cheese and beans, shredded beef, pork or vegetables; and taco al pastor—grilled pork marinated in traditional Mexican marinade and served with finely chopped onions, cilantro, and diced pineapple.
Regardless of where you choose to dine, you can now find a terrific meal in a variety of settings.
