Fig and almond trees scent the air at this luxurious rural haven in the Santa Agnés valley, which was built as a farmhouse in 1652 and has been lovingly maintained by the same family since 1997. Each of the 15 rooms is different and has its own terrace, garden or balcony; the dining area and its traditional farmhouse tables are the picture of country chic; while the pool has a slightly more contemporary – but still cosy – feel. Staff are relaxed and eager to please, though never intrusive, which suits the hotel’s private retreat vibe. On scorching days, the staff deliver complimentary, ice-cold juice direct to your sun lounger. There is a small spa, a well-curated boutique, and a covered, outdoor studio perfect for private yoga and meditation classes.

Exuding a sense of understated cool, this sleek hotel is a tribute to the elegance of minimalist style. Clean lines and neutral colours characterise the décor, while the outside pool and spa area are as close as you’ll get to al fresco polished perfection. Acclaimed interior designer, Joan Lao, was responsible for transforming the 1970s space into a feat of modern design. Each of the seven rooms is decorated differently, although the plush interiors in various shades of calming grey, white and fawn are present throughout – as is the inescapable comfort of the king-sized beds, which are all adorned in 100 per cent Ibicenco cotton. Atzaró’s high level of service, quality and signature pared-back style have, without question, raised the bar for the entire island. The family-run hotel has evolved from a 300-year-old farmhouse and is now the very epitome of rustic chic (think thick white walls, natural Sabina wood beams, historic photos, and rustic antique furniture). Vibrant bougainvillea grows everywhere and palms, grapevines and olive trees provide shade while the scents of herbs and flowers mingle in the air. Rooms – many with a terrace, plunge pool, and garden, all with teak four-poster beds, white cotton linens and massive pillows – imbue a sense of calm. Ca Na Xica is a gorgeous, secluded retreat in the heart of the Ibizan countryside, surrounded by terracotta-clay surroundings, distinctive long grasses, cacti, olive and almond trees, and a lemon and orange orchard. The T-shaped seawater pool is the centrepiece of the hotel, which began as just six rooms in the main house (it now has 20), built in the style of a Spanish finca. The part open-air, glass walled restaurant is also a particular feature, where dishes such as langoustine with mango chutney, Josper-cooked, Ibiza-style marinated chicken and tuna tartar with mango and avocado are pricey but delicious. There’s lots of space around the pool and spa to lounge.

Situated in San Carlos – one of Ibiza’s most bohemian villages with a spirit rooted in the 1960s – the hotel’s countryside location means it’s encompassed by an abundance of sensational flora. The original Can Curreu finca is more than 200 years old, and a real emphasis has been placed on maintaining the hotel’s authentic, rustic style as it has expanded over the years – each suite has modern features but is drenched in traditional charm. Romantic Cas Gasi, near the village of Santa Gertrudis, a favourite of artists, was originally built towards the end of the 19th century. The farmhouse and adjacent buildings have been lovingly restored by live-in husband and wife team who have filled communal areas with charming mismatched furniture, paintings by local Ibicenco painters, chandeliers and antiques to complement beamed ceilings and a flickering log fire. There are 10 rooms and two suites in total; some are in the main finca and have a balcony or hot tub, while others are in separate buildings and boast more space and superb light come sunset. They are all decorated individually, with flashes of floral, the occasional stripe and lashings of old school charm.

Surrounded by vivid green pine forest and fertile olive groves, this gorgeous, 19th-century, four-bedroomed finca has an enviable position on a 30-acre estate of orange, mango, apricot and fig trees. It’s an oasis peppered with lazy lean-tos and overhanging palm trees that inspire Spanish-style siestas as you shelter from the midsummer sun. Inside it’s a similarly carefree story, with wicker chairs, comfortable sofas and striking sculptures (much of the furniture has been hand-crafted by Rushan Muca, the hotel’s co-owner). With so many nooks and crannies to explore, great people-watching, and an excellent pool (the famous backdrop for Wham’s Club Tropicana video), Pikes is bursting at the seams with personality. There are 25 rooms which all have a carefree Ibizan feel, with décor that nods to the hotel’s rock ‘n’ roll roots and plenty of quirky elements (a round Hobbit door on one suite, a sunken bathtub inside another), a hot pink tennis court, whirlpool tub, and a variety of massages, fitness and yoga classes offered in the ‘Rockovery’ tent. Orange and olive trees dot this Puig d’en Valls gem which blends into the Ibizan countryside with its Bedouin tent-covered outdoor lounge, sprawling grounds, mix of light stone and time-washed terracotta and curved, sculptural accents. The standout feature is the 15th-century watermill, an icon of rural Spain that, today, feels perfectly at home next to the teal infinity pool. While there aren’t tons of facilities, there are all the basics: a top-notch restaurant, a good bar, a sizable parking lot, and a yoga temple.
