The best accommodation in Livigno

Livigno has a vast number of hotels, mainly with three- or four-stars – there are no five-stars –  as well as a good choice of self-catering apartments. They are widely spread along the 4km length of the resort village and it’s best to stay at one end or the other, where it’s easiest to get to one of the main access gondolas to the Carosello side of the ski area. 

Staying near the lifts to the Costaccia sector of Carosello is more convenient for the pedestrianised village promenade of shops, restaurants and bars. That said, an efficient free bus service links all the main access lifts, including those for the opposite Mottolino side of the ski area.

In a quiet position close to the foot of the Amerikan drag-lift and the Carosello gondola the four-star Amerikan is ski-in/ski-out, and there’s a stop for the free bus to the centre of town 50m away. Décor is modern with mainly wooden floors and ceilings, and there’s a smart wellness centre with a swimming pool, two types of sauna, a steam room and a hot tub.

This swish family-friendly four-star 100m from the Carosello gondola is widely regarded as the best hotel in Livigno. Hotel Sporting’s sleek, modern décor features classy wooden floors and walls, including in the spacious bedrooms, which include family rooms and suites and have balconies and panoramic views. The adult-only wellness area includes a sauna, steam room and outdoor hot tub, and the restaurant has an excellent reputation for fine dining food. There’s also a kids’ playroom and the wellness area includes a small pool separated from the adult pool by a soundproof glass wall.

For ski-in convenience it’s hard to beat the smart 65-room four-star Lac Salin, right by the piste and just a few metres from a drag-lift linking with a piste to the Carosello gondola. Décor is modern, staff very helpful and friendly, food excellent, and there’s a lovely terrace overlooking the slopes. It also has an indoor pool, hot tub and sauna and a children’s play room. Babysitting is available on request.
